Porphyry is a magmatic rock with abundant phenocrysts. The color is varied and changing and can run from red to brown, purple, from gray to green.
This rock is widespread in the North East of Italy, but also found in Mexico and Argentina.
This type of stone is often used for outdoor applications because it is a very resistant rock to cold and hot environments. It finds a wide range of use in various types of flooring (cobblestones, or slabs of different sizes) because of it’s roughness that makes it non-slip. It is also used in external cladding.
Given their technical and chromatic properties, some porphyries are widely used in the construction of architectural elements such as kitchen tops, window sills, stairs and pillars, as well as being widely used In gardening and landscape decoration.
Porphyry is also used in the aggregate industry for production of granules, or porphyry pebbles.
Usually porphyry is extracted in slabs in keeping with the natural quarry layer. It is worked on manual C-machines (for cubes, curbs ...) and H-frame machines (for the production of stairs, steps or plates).
In addition to Series C, within the vast catalog of MEC machines for splitting the stone stands the PX Series. The machines for the processing of porphyry that fall into this category are always manual, but their structure is closed. The bottom blade is fixed, while the table drops slightly during the phase of porphyry splitting.
The Fast thin veneer machines are essential equipment for anyone involved in the cutting of irregular stones such as porphyry. The presence of one or more powerful diamond blades allows you to get to a clean and sharp cut of the block, achieving excellent results in terms of quality and productivity.
The Series Stark falls into the category MEC intended for crushing. These plants, in fact, deal with the primary porphyry crushing process: their structure is strong and heavy to resist any type of wear. The finished product of porphyry can be presented in different grain sizes, depending on your needs.
There is also the Crunch Series like the Series Stark, which could be the complementary to each other. These machines for the processing of porphyry toward, in fact, to the stage of secondary crushing. The finished product turns out to be rubble or sand made of porphyry, which can be used again.
The porphyry can be also efficiently processed by means of the Horizontal machines T1 and T2 of the Horizontal Pitching Series, destined to “dress” the product. The machine for the processing of porphyry Horizontal 1 is composed of a single head with the chisel, while the Horizontal 2 leads to increase productivity thanks to the presence of two heads.
Since 1996 Mec has successfully established itself in the splitting and processing of stone field. Today Mec is present in more than 70 countries in the world with its powerful, high-precision and fully customizable machines.
